FAQ
Questions we get before the engine comes out
If yours isn’t here, call (858) 565-7467 and ask - you’ll get somebody who works on engines.
- Can I bring in just the parts, or does the whole car have to come in?
- Either works. Plenty of customers drop off a bare head, block or crank and pick it up machined. If you'd rather not do the teardown, bring the car and we'll handle the whole job.
- How long does machine work take?
- It depends on what the part needs and what's already on the bench. Call with the year, make and engine and we'll give you a realistic turnaround before you drop anything off - we'd rather quote you accurately than tell you two days and take a week.
- Do you check whether a part is worth saving before machining it?
- Always. Cleaning, measuring and pressure testing come first. If a head is cracked past repair or a block is out of usable bore range, you'll hear that before you've paid for machine time on a part that can't be used.
- Will you work with parts I supply?
- Yes. Bring your gasket set, pistons, bearings or valvetrain and tell us your target specs. We'll machine to your numbers and flag anything in the parts list that won't play well with the rest of the build.
- Do you do regular repairs, or only machine shop work?
- Both. Cooling system repairs, timing belts, clutches, oil leaks and check-engine diagnostics all go through the shop alongside the machining.
- Do you give estimates?
- We quote after we've measured, because that's the only point where the number means anything. Call the shop to talk through your situation and what an inspection involves.
- What are your hours?
- Current shop hours are pending client confirmation, so we're not publishing a schedule we can't stand behind. Call (858) 565-7467 and we'll tell you when to come by.
Still deciding what to do?
Describe the symptom - noise, smoke, temperature, when it happens - and we’ll tell you what it usually turns out to be.
